A photograph of artist Kate Sparrow painting a canvas

Kate Sparrow is a British artist who recently moved her busy life and three children from Hong Kong to set up her own artist studio in the beautiful Principality of Laás in South West France. She works on both portrait commissions and mixed-media art pieces. Kate aims to encapsulate the personality and essence of the person she paints. She works with the client to create a narrative in the work.

She is a fully registered teacher of 25 years working as Head of Art in the UK and in Hong Kong. She continues to consult for a school in London and is an IB examiner.

Kate is passionate about sharing her love of art and has fulfilled a life long dream to set up her own studio to work and teach in. Working with the local and international community to encourage creativity in both children and adults.

Kate lived in Hong Kong for many years and the Asian influence permeates her highly decorative style of painting.  She has exhibited in cities around the world, including London and Hong Kong. She has been part of group exhibitions, for instance the Asia Contemporary Art Fair, and was selected in three consecutive years for the Hong Kong Human Rights Arts Prize.

She had her first solo show in 2014 looking at the displacement of people in the world. In 2019 her solo show 'I Am Woman' received media attention and aimed to break down codes and conventions created around women living in Hong Kong. She hoped to shine a light on the inspirational women in the city. In 2022 she set up her own gallery in France. She was in the SWA art exhibition held at The Mall Galleries in London.

She has worked with the community on several projects including 'The Inside Out Project' and 'We Are Here' with a fellow artist - taking over the streets of Hong Kong with photos and paintings to tell the narrative of the many refugees stranded in Hong Kong.
