Welcome to your painting retreat holiday in the beautiful region of Béarn des Gaves in Laàs, France! This is the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the French countryside and to let your creativity flow in the stunning en plein air landscapes. We will explore a range of media developing work inspired by nature.

During your retreat, you will stay in a charming and comfortable accommodation located in the heart of Laàs village. You will be surrounded by nature and the peaceful atmosphere of the countryside, allowing you to disconnect from the stress of daily life and fully concentrate on your painting.

Every day, you will have the chance to explore and paint in different locations within the region of Béarn des Gaves. Your experienced and knowledgeable guide will take you to the most beautiful and inspiring places, such as the picturesque village of Salies-de-Béarn, the stunning Gave d'Oloron river, and the breathtaking Pyrenees mountains.

You will be provided with all the necessary materials, including canvases, paints, brushes, and easels, so you don't have to worry about bringing your own equipment. You will also receive expert guidance and tips from your instructor, who will help you develop your skills and techniques.

In addition to painting, you will have plenty of opportunities to discover the local culture and cuisine. You will visit traditional markets and sample delicious regional dishes, such as garbure soup, confit de canard, and gateau basque. You will also have the chance to explore the beautiful medieval town of Navarrenx and learn about its fascinating history and architecture.

At the end of each day, you can relax and unwind in your comfortable accommodation, surrounded by the beautiful French countryside. You will have the opportunity to reflect on your day's work and discuss your progress with your fellow painters, sharing your experiences and inspiration.

The Week

Saturday

Guest arrive with a welcome dinner at the hotel  in the picturesque village of Laás. Guests will stay at the charming local Auberge. Every room is unique  with ensuite facilities.

​Sunday

  • After breakfast, we will head to the Chateau de Laàs, a beautiful historic castle surrounded by stunning gardens and landscapes.

  • Your instructor will guide you in a drawing and painting session, helping you to capture the unique features and atmosphere of the castle and its surroundings.

  • We will break for a delicious lunch, prepared with fresh and local ingredients, and enjoy the peaceful ambiance of the chateau grounds.

  • In the afternoon, we will continue our painting session, with plenty of time to explore different angles and perspectives of the castle and gardens.

  • In the evening, we will have a BBQ or meal.

Chateau de Laas

​Monday

  • Today, we will discover the beautiful village of Navarrenx, known for its picturesque architecture and historical significance.

  • We will start the day with a painting session in the village square, capturing the charming atmosphere and traditional buildings.

  • After lunch, we will explore the village, learning about its rich history and cultural heritage.

  • We will then have time to explore and paint in different locations throughout the village, such as the ramparts, the riverbank, and the famous Notre-Dame du Bout du Pont chapel.

  • In the evening, we will return to our accommodation and enjoy a group dinner. There will be an opportunity for guests to take part in a Reiki/Meditation session. 

The village of Navarrenx

​Tuesday

  • Today, we will visit the historic area of Sauveterre-de-Béarn, a medieval town perched on a hill overlooking the Gave d'Oloron river.

  • The Pont de la Légende in Sauveterre-de-Béarn is a beautiful and historic bridge that has become a popular subject for artists. Its dramatic arches, steep incline, and stunning views make it an ideal location for drawing and painting en plein air. Artists can capture the play of light and shadow on the bridge, the reflections in the river below, and the surrounding landscape. The bridge's legend also adds to its allure, providing artists with inspiration for creating evocative and meaningful artworks. Overall, the Pont de la Légende is a must-see location for artists looking to capture the beauty and history of the region.

  • After lunch, we will take a guided tour of the town, visiting the impressive Church of Saint-André and the fortified bridge over the river.

  • We will then have time to explore and paint in different locations throughout the town, such as the narrow streets, the town hall, and the ruins of the castle.

  • In the evening, we will return to our accommodation and enjoy a group dinner. We will have drinks with local artists.

Sauveterre de Béarn

​Wednesday

  • Today, we will spend the day in the studio in Laàs, working on developing your final painting.

  • Your instructor will guide you in the techniques and approaches to create a cohesive and expressive artwork based on your experiences and inspirations from the past days.

  • You will have access to all the necessary materials and resources to create your masterpiece, with the guidance and support of your instructor and fellow painters.

  • In the evening, we will have a group dinner.

​Thursday

  • Today, we will visit the vibrant market town of Salies-de-Béarn, known for its picturesque architecture and thermal baths.

  • We will start the day with a visit to the market, where you can experience the lively atmosphere and buy fresh local produce and souvenirs.

  • After the market, we will explore the town's historic center, visiting the charming Rue des Thermes and the impressive Church of Saint-Vincent.

  • We will then have time to relax and enjoy the town's thermal baths or continue painting in different locations throughout the town.

  • In the evening, we will return to our accommodation and enjoy a group dinner.

What's included:
 

1,600 euros per person

Included all accommodation, meals, art tuition, some art materials but guests will need to bring their own brushes, a watercolor sketchbook  and a set of watercolors.

What's not included:

Travel to the venue and insurance.
